After graduating fomr U of M in nursing, I set out wiht my RN and Hope to help people and contribute to life of others and bring new life into this world. I have worked in intensive care and have seen many trauma cases. I am now married and have six beautiful children, 5 boys, 1 girl, and 1 in heaven. I never ever thought that I would have time to write a blog but with God's grace, and after children are in bed, I hope to share and maybe encourage others with the daily struggles and joys of haveing a big family and being able to still use my nuring experience for daily life.
After I had my first child, I have to say that I never had experienced any greater joy than being a new mother. Looking back after 12 years, I would say I wish that I would have done things differently in caring for the health of my children. I realized over the years, that the most stessful aspect of having children was keeping them well, medically speaking, which I never thought would be a problem given all my experience a s an ICU nurse and othe nursing experiences. After the many trips to the pediatrician"s office for routine check ups and just some sick check ups, I realized how frequently I was combatting ear infections allergies, asthma, etc. I started to worry every time my child would get a cold in fear the cild would get an ear infection and then have to start antibiotics. I never understood during my nursing experience how over doing antibiotics could cause so many other problems due to killing off the good bacteria as well as the bad in the intestines. I also learned that 80% of our immune system is in the intestines. So if the immune system goes out of wack, many problems can surface such as allergies, yeast, asthma. After my fifth child I was given the name of a homeopathic MD, who truly eased my mind about children's illnesses and helped me to take care of them without the using so many antibiotics. For example, ear infections can be treated with garlic oil. She also encouraged using vitamin c with common colds and flus. I have seen fevers come down with just using vitamin C. There are always exceptions, and I still would see a pediatrician but did not aways take their advice with using antibiotics for ear infections, and they would still go away. In cases of strep throat or Urinary tract infections, I would give an antibiotic, due to the serious nature of the illness. I have learned other ways to keep my family healthy and will share next time. I welcome your comments.
